A plain-language guide to care & costs

Looking for a tissue repair doctor? Start with the whole bill.

Bring the cost question into the care conversation. What is being treated? What is proposed? What does the price include?

An empty writing desk and chair beside a sunny window, with a notebook ready for questions.
Write down your questions before the visit.
The price question

What is included?

  • The visitAsk
  • Any testsAsk
  • The medicineAsk
  • Later careAsk

Get a written price you can compare.

Ask what is included, what repeats and what changes if the care plan changes. Keep the answers together.

Lab work

Keep tests in the same cost conversation.

Ask what each test is meant to answer. Then ask who will explain the result and what the quoted price covers.

Some lab offers checked in September 2026 added a doctor’s fee for requesting the test, separate from the test price.

A notebook and pencils on a quiet table in a bright room, with no writing visible.
Ask what each test is meant to find out.
An empty sunlit courtyard with a bench, green plants and a clear walking path.
Start with the name of the person treating you.
Finding care

Put a name behind the care.

A state medical board issues doctors’ licences. Its public records give their licence status and any public action concerning their conduct.

Ask for the full name of whoever will treat you, whether a doctor or someone else. Ask which state board issued their licence. If medicine is proposed, ask for the pharmacy’s name too.

Use the licence checklist
A useful opening question

What are we treating, and why this plan?

Write down what brought you here in your own words. Bring that concern to the visit before choosing a product.
